I am happy to announce that Tom Buzzell, current Bristol Elementary School Library Media Specialist, has been appointed as interim principal at BES for the 2019-2020 school year.  Tom has quickly become a positive, influential member of the BES community.  His experience as a school leader positions him well to assume the responsibilities as interim principal.  Please help me in congratulating Tom and welcoming him into his new role starting July 1.  Below is a brief biography.

Tom's current Vermont Educators License includes endorsements for Principal, Grades PreK-12 and Library Media Specialist, Grades PreK-12.  He has 13 years experience in school leadership as assistant principal, co-principal and principal, 10 years as a secondary science teacher, 6 years as an elementary school librarian, and 2 years as a high school librarian.  He has also taught part-time at an alternative high school and summer school. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology, has a Secondary Science Teaching Certificate, a Master of Science in School Library Media and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership from the University of Vermont.

He resides in Hinesburg with his wife. They have four children. When not working at school Tom can be found paddling a kayak, announcing the UVM home swim meets or officiating youth summer swim meets in the Champlain Valley Swim League.

Throughout Tom's work as a educator he has worked to establish rapport and open lines of communication with students, staff and community members and focus on developing students who are lifelong learners and contributing citizens.

Tom is committed to working with the talented Bristol Elementary School staff to continue to make Bristol Elementary School a great place for students to learn.
